Isabelle spent most of her childhood in the small village of Hemlock until it was ravaged by a dragon attack that left only her as the sole survivor. Unable to fend for herself, she was taken to Ishgard's orphanage and spent her formative years there, honing her skills with the sword until she was adopted by House Fortemps due to her exceptional talent. At the age of eighteen, she discovered her connection to the Ascians after an outburst of anger towards some of the knights who believed they were superior to her. She was subsequently imprisoned for a short time, but was rescued by the intervention of Aymeric, Estinion, and Haurchefaunt. Following the resolution of the Dragonsong War, Isabelle continued to train and perfect her Ascian abilities, ultimately rising to the rank of Commander in the Temple Knights.
